Poker Alice

I was assigned to create a wild west inspired illustration in a technique called oil rub. In this technique I created a pencil sketch on illustration board with a vellum finish and fixed it with fixative spray. I then rubbed oil paint onto the surface and erased highlights with a kneaded eraser. After that I worked with colored pencils on top of the oil layer.

The character is inspired by a real person called "Poker Alice" who had a rather crazy life in the wild west.
